How To Build Your Backlinks For Greater Site Popularity

One of the most-asked questions relating to SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and building up your site for more traffic is how to handle backlinks (finding, getting, etc), and if buying backlinks is safe. Afterall, it is a one way link. It is from a well-known site. You get what you pay for.
BUYING BACKLINKS
Well, the short answer is DON’T do it.
The semi-long answer I will explain why. One-way links are in reality not valued any more by google than a reciprocal link. The thing is, most reciprocal links are not on topic and exchanged with just about any other site. One-way links tend to be a like-themed site that is pointing to some great information on your website. On-topic, the keyword there.
Getting a link from a well-known site is always good when possible. That is always a plus. However, if it is also well-known to google to sell links the link you just bought is heavily devalued.
It turns out that many places selling high-pr backlinks sell them to many people. That alone can heavily damage your Google rep because the guys and gals over at Google are not stupid and can tell who is selling links, many because they make it blatantly known.
The only good thing to come from buying backlinks is that high-pr websites are often walked on a daily basis, so your new-to-the-internet site is found and walked very quickly. Hardly a trade-off for the damage it does however.
BUILDING BACKLINKS
It is much better to build many backlinks with many sites, specifically on-topic or same-topic websites. There are many ways to achieve this.
1. One time-tested method is to research who your competitors are on Google. Do a “link:domain” on google to find the backlinks to that website, and start at the top and work your way through trying to get backlinks from the same people. Do not stop at that, but it is a good starting point.
2. Add your website to web resource directories. These are very easy to locate via Google.
3. Join a link exchange service. This is the easiest way to find link partners, since sites looking to exchange are already there and waiting to exchange. Finding new link exchange partners is a piece of cake this way.
4. Write articles and submit them to article directories. Not only does the article get picked up on the article directory itself, but anyone else wanting to use it can do so, giving you another backlink. It’s like a viral link campaign. Just make sure to give quality information that it for the user, and if they are interested in more information they will follow the link in your resource box. Just make sure it is a good source of information and not a disguised sales ad or such, as it won’t work this way. For an added bonus, using one of the big article submission services that submit your article to thousands of directories and sites can sometimes save a lot of time in the long run.
While buying links may seem like a great shortcut, the usual saying do apply. Building a website the old-fashioned way by building up both yours and your sites reputation is how to get long-lasting success. It does take time, but it’s worth it in the long run.
Seven Free Search Engine Resources You Should be Using as of Now
October 28, 2008 by The Big SEO
Ask any business person who’s website is at the top of t(e search engines if his/her site is making money, and the answer is almost always “yes”.
An example is Glenn Canady, the authkr of “Gorilla Marketing” wh/ employed only one of these strategies, and it made hi- over $1 million Dollars.
The fact is, seArch engines can get you an enormous amount of traffic, and it’s traffic to your 3ites that’s free. Howefer, in order to ethically and effectively market in the search engines, you need to use strategies that actually work.
Below are three different ways to effectively, and ethically, raise your rankings in the search engines. I’ve included seven different resources that you can use that will help you implement these strategies, and do it quickly and easily so that you can begin to see an increase in your traffic almost immediately.
1. Optimize your site.
To make sure that you are properly targeting your market, you need to make sure that you are marketing using the right keywords. This means optimizing your site to make sure that the keywords you have on your site are the keywords that your site is actually optimized for.
There are two tools that you can use to help you with search engine optimization:
a. Search Engine Optimization Fast Start Ebook will teach you simple and effective techniques for optimmizing your site. This ebook is now in its 4th edition, is completely up to date, and is one of the best ebooks I’ve seen on search engine optimization.
b. Web CEO – This is a complete search engine optimization suite that offers 10 different tools to help you optimize your site for the search engines. It offers the most comprehensive, and step by step, set of instructions I’ve ever seen with any software package. According to the instructions, you can get started in one hour. The free version of this software will work for most, and it also includes a $97 search engine optimization course as part of the package.
2. Develop a linking strategy.
One factor that influences how well you are ranked in the search engines is linking. The more inbound links that you have pointing to your site, the higher you will be ranked in the search engines.
For each link that you have pointing back to you, that’s another opportunity for your potential customer to find you. With credibility being such a big problem on the internet, to have someone recommend you increases your chance of making the sale.
To help you develop an effective strategy, I recommend that you read “Linking Matters” – This ebook shows you how to develop an effective linking strategy for your site, and do it very quickly.
3. Develop a content strategy.
The truth is, “Content is King”. Most people online are looking for information. The more information that you provide for your customers, and the more valuable it is, the more likely you will make the sale.
Below are three different ways to develop content for your site.
The first and most effective strategy are articles.
Articles actually work for you in several ways.
a. Brands you as an expert so that customers come to you.
b. Provides valuable content to your potential customers.
c. Builds a relationship between you and your potential customers.
d. Creates a viral marketing strategy for your site.
e. Builds a linking strategy for you every time a webmaster publishes one of your articles.
No other strategy that I have employed has brought me more business than this one.
To find sites that accept articles, go here: This is one of the sites that I use because it’s one of the oldest and most reputable sites online for finding information on ezines. Unfortunately, there’s no search, but everything is done by category, and the information is comprehensive, so you will locate rather quickly what you are looking for.
However, if the thought of writing your own content gives you nightmares, there’s a way around this.
You can use public domain information. Public domain information is information that is free to use because it’s in the public arena, or the copyright has expired.
To help you easily locate this information, I recommend that you download the public domain toolbar. You can get it at the Public Domain Forum – You have to register for an account to get the toolbar, but both the forum account and the toolbar are free. The toolbar is a very comprehensive resource of public domain sources.
The third content strategy you need to consider is blogging.
What a blog does is allows you to create search engine friendly content on your topic of interest. Combine this with an RSS feed, which the search engines love, and you have a winning strategy.
Not only will it help you build content for the search engines, but it can also help you raise your traffic and sales.
Here is a comprehensive ecourse that you can take that will drastically reduce your learning curve, as well as provide you with the resources you need to implement this strategy.
Finally, to keep abreast of what’s happening with search engines, you need to subscribe to Search Engine Watch – This site offers tons of resources, news, and a newsletter on search engine optimization.
Apply one, or all, of these search engine resources to your search engine strategy, and you can expect a major increase in your traffic and sales to your site.
If you want to effectively market your website in the search engines, these free tools are the best for helping you raise your search engine rankings.
Building Backlinks Through Articles, Directories, And Social Bookmarking

If you’ve been in the webmaster business for very long, you know that backlinks are vital to your success. Many people struggle with this, because they have nearly no short-term payoff. Sometimes, it can take a month for new backlinks to start to positively influence your traffic or earnings. If you can muster up the patience and put the work into it now, though, you’ll be thanking yourself later – and your bank account will be thanking you, as well. The question that many people get stuck on, though, is this: “How do I go about getting backlinks?” It is possible to go to link brokerage services, but those can be expensive and run up costs very quickly. If you want something cost effective, there are three solid options for you to choose from.
One popular option is Article submission. There are two ways to build up backlinks with this tactic. First, you may pepper links to your own websites within the articles you write, since many article directories allow links to be submitted within the submissions. Secondly, each article will have a link pointing to your site at the bottom of the submission, in order to show who the original author of the article is. These links are especially effective because many people will use articles from these directories on their own sites. Whenever your article is used on someone else’s site, you gain even more backlinks. This means that the return you get is nearly perpetual!
A second option is to submit your website to website directories. These websites include a link to your site as well as a short description. These links are especially effective if you submit your website to many directories within a short period of time (say, a month or two), assuming that all of the directories are relevant to the content on your website.
Last, but definitely not least, is the option of social bookmarking. Sites like Digg, Mixx, and etc. are perfect for building backlinks. Each page that you submit will get you a permanent backlink – and these are especially powerful in the eyes of the search engines because most social bookmarking websites are listed as “authority” websites. And as the name would imply, a link from an authority website is very effective in boosting your results in the search engines. As with article submissions, an effectively perpetual return comes from social bookmarking. If your content is interesting to those who pass by, chances are that they will “vote it up”, meaning that more people will be likely to visit your website. Especially interesting content usually ends up being blogged about or shared on people’s homepages – meaning even more free links for you.
Don’t feel like you need to choose one of these three tactics. The best thing to do is to do all three of them in tandem! By diversifying the source of your backlinks, your website will become even more trusted in the eyes of the search engines. Once you’ve got the trust of the search engines, it is much easier for your website to climb up and attain a more visible placement in the search results.
Articles Publication Online Business – Some Facts of Earning Adsense Google Advertisement Money

In this small article we would like to share our experience, so you understand what you will be facing, if you try similar business launch: PR, articles, video and photo blogs, news, opinions publishing website. In our case we don’t do it for living, however we are pretty advanced in using posting media portal as good source of our marketing campaign, helping us to get internet leads. However we see very interesting statistical trends, that are valuable enough to be publicly known
1. Google AdSense program. Of course it all depends on your circumstances, however chances are high that you are starting from scratch, meaning you do not have advertising sponsors, who are willing to place high volume of expensive ads. If you are normal simple person, you should consider signing to google adsense program
2. Clicking through percentage. Google requires its own customers, who pays money for clicks to maintain reasonable click through minimal ratio, which is normally required to be higher than 0.5% (200 visits = one or more clicks). If you are in adsense program as google vendor, it doesn’t mean for you that you should comply to very high requirements on your web pages – google itself will be able to qualify your pages for relevant ads
3. Daily page visiting through the week. This is very interesting. On our website we have all the variety of article, blogs and press releases, however as the visiting count is equal through the week, at the end of the week: second half of Friday, Saturday and Sunday we see hits decrease to about 65-70%, and more over, people are switching viewed topics over the weekend: most popular Saturday topics are Jewelry, Recreation, and new Jobs. On the business days people are searching their business related topics: computers, software, accounting, ERP, Microsoft, Oracle, etc.
4. Cheap and Expensive days. It is very strange observation, and we do not know what stays behind in google ads placement mechanism, but this is obvious and solid trend that about 5 days per month, the level of our daily revenue goes down dramatically and we earn only 20% of normal daily revenue. We name it cheap days. The same could be said about very profit promising days, where early in the morning we can say – yes, today we should get 500% of normal daily revenue
Making more than Pennies with Google Adsense

Google Adsense is advertisements you can put on your website in various formats, when someone clicks on an Ad you get payed a commission. Placing ads on your site is easy you just need to copy and paste a script onto your site which is easily created though google’s step by step setup. These scripts work by looking at your website page content and showing relevant ads based on this information.
Many people have been highly successful making money with Google’s Adsense, some actually make thousands of dollars per day. But there are many strugglers that only make 1 or 2 dollars per day which can be very frustrating. Common mistakes are made by these people, and with just a little extra effort, their earnings could be greatly improved.
If you are interested in Adsense the first thing you need to do is choose a niche to work with. Don’t just choose a niche just because of the high paying keywords it offers. You need to find something that you have a passion for or know a lot about. You will need to update your site regularly to keep up with competitors, and it’s much easier to do this if you actually like your niche. The second point id like to make is that you need to assess your competition. If your niche has been done to death or there are too many competing sites you are decreasing your chances of success.
Another common problem is the content people put on their sites, it needs to be useful to your visitors and offer them value. Duplicate content is all over the net today and it is easy to find what I call adsense only sites which offer visitors nothing new just the same content from the previous site they visited. If you choose a niche you have a passion for, and knowledge about, you should be able to create a site with unique information that your visitors will value. If you do this your visitors will return and maybe even recommend your site to others.
The next mistake people make is the placement of there ads. It is very important to place your ads in strategic positions. If you don’t spend the time doing this your click through rate, and earnings will be low. I recommend using google’s help section in your adsence account. Do a search for ‘heat map’ this heat map shows you the positions that people are most likely to click. This type of information is invaluable, and will help improve your click though rate and earnings dramatically.
It’s also extremely important to track your results. Google has channels you can create and use to track your ads so you can see what works best. Spending the time trying different positions and ad types on your site is well worth the effort.
All this information is useless unless you have a steady stream of website traffic. I recommend learning basic on page optimization which is tips on making your site search engine friendly. On page optimization includes things like using keyword pacific page titles, and correct use of meta tags.
More importantly people need to learn off page optimization which is basically getting links from other websites to your own. This will improve your search engine rankings and give you traffic from other websites. Off page optimization includes article submission, posting on forums relevant to your niche with your website in your signature, and swapping links with other webmasters.
Now you are ready to get out there and implement or improve your websites. We have learnt to, choose a niche we have a passion for, provide visitors with unique, and quality content. Place your ads strategically to improve your click through rate with the help of google’s heat map. Tracking your ads with channels to see what works and what doesn’t. How to get traffic to your website using on-page and off-page optimization.
For more information on these topics I recommend you watch these videos form Michael Cheney who has earned thousand from adsence. He spent a whole year locked away studying adsence strategies and come up with a system that is guaranteed to work for you. If you’re not happy with Michael’s videos he will happily refund your money no questions asked. You can find a link to his site in my biography box.

Link Building | Get More Backlinks for Better Search Engine Placement

Do you have a website, blog, squidoo lens or any other type of site? Are trying to make money through natural search engine positioning? If you are then you better learn how to get quality backlinks, and lots of them.
I build small niche websites, and then count on search engine traffic to sell products/services from my sites. To do this I have to do some keyword research to make sure it’s possible to dominate that term. I also have to do some great SEO tactics on my page.
More than that I have to build backlinks and tons of them. I do a variety of things to build backlinks, some are boring and tedious and some have been outsourced so I can focus my time on more profitable endeavors.
I know there are some basic ways to build links and I have been brainstorming some other ways as well. I think I have come up with some interesting ways to build some links, so I’m going to share them with you.
Free Link Building Ideas
Article Marketing ~ add your link with keyword anchor text in your resource box
Forum Posts ~ add your link with keyword anchor text in your sig file
Blog Comments ~ keyword in the “name” area, and then your url. (will create a hot link with anchor text)
Comments at Ezine Articles ~ this one just occurred to me recently. I checked the source code and they do not appear to use the “no follow” attribute, so google should count these links. You may even get traffic from these too. I just enter my main keyword, and add a relevant comment to the article. I use this like I would a blog comment with my keyword in the name area and then my url. You have to wait for EZA to approve your comment, but it’s worth it.
Set up Google Alert for keywords ~ each time I set up a new site I also set up a google alert for the keyword. I only choose to get alerts from blogs. Now each time someone posts a blog on my keyword I know about it and can get over there and add a comment.
Build free Blogs ~ Build a blog at wordpress.com, blogger, tumblr or wherever. You can do this blog on a related topic and add your site in the blogroll. This will give you a link for each page you publish on this blog. I use PLR for these blogs, and just change up the articles a little bit so they are more original. You can also add links within the articles to your blog for added links.
Hubpages and Squidoo ~ build pages at both of these free sites. Make sure to add a link to your site using keywords as your anchor text. At squidoo you can also add a link to your product or service you are promoting. Depending on how you want to use Hubpages I would be careful adding links to affiliate products over there. I just use hubpages as a way to get one more link from a quality source to my new niche site.
Myspace ~ set up a myspace profile and only add friends that are related to your niche site. You can quickly and easily do this with myspace friend adder software like Friend Blaster Pro. You can then use any/all the article you have written for your site and/or blogs as bulletins to send to your friends list or on your myspace blog. This will get you nice backlinks as well as targeted traffic.
Zimbio ~ this site is new to me. I have used it for my squidoo lenses, by adding my lensmaster RSS feed url from Squid Utils it will post each new lens I write on Zimbio. You can do this with the RSS feeds for each of your sites, including your main niche site, as well as any free blogs you set up. Make sure to do this first so it will catch all your articles as you put them up.
Directory Submission ~ there are tons of directories you can add your site url to. I set the timer for 30 minutes and just go as fast as I can submitting. I do this at least once a day for 30 minutes.
Wis.dm ~ A fun little site where you can ask a question. There is space for you to submit a url where people can find the answer. Just think of a question that relates to your niche and then add your site url in the space provided.
Twitter ~ not sure how good this is for backlinks, but if you have some people following you, it might be worth sending a quick tweet about your new site. You might just mention you found a cool site etc, so as not to give away all your niches
If you want to take things to the next level there are also service you can join to build links. They work a few different ways. You generally pay a monthly fee to join.
I keep remembering recently reading a comment that really stuck with me. It was said you should be spending 90% of your time building links. When I thought about how much time I was spending in this area it was probably about .5%. Stay focused, and set up a system for yourself and you too can build tons of great backlinks.
All Internet Marketers Are Aware Of The Significance Of Building Backlinks

There are many bloggers out there that do not comprehend the potential of their blogs; specifically, the money making potential of a blog and how it can be optimized to generate a steady online income. Here are a few reasons why anyone can make money blogging. Online Marketers use blogs for marketing and bloggers capitalize on that need and make money blogging. So why are blogs so profitable? Well here are four reasons:
Highly Targeted Marketing
Blog visitors are there for a particular reason. Blogs, being constantly updated are a great source of information on a particular topic. For more information please login on to www.bloggers-guide-to-profit.com. Visitors become repeat visitors, readers and subscribers. Good blogs, the ones that are maintained and updated regularly can and do have steady readership that keeps coming back awaiting the next post and article. These blogs have audiences allowing marketers and advertisers easy access to particular groups.
Blogs and Physical Evidence
Before I spent a few thousand dollars to buy my new laptop a couple of months ago, I read reviews, testimonials and consumer opinions on many different products. I spent a good 10-12 hours reading, comparing taking notes and asking questions before I made up my mind and spent my money. Most of that time was spent on technology blogs; I read reviews, compared products and was actually pretty happy to find out that this information was readily available online. It helped my make the purchase.
Even if the company I bought the laptop from provided me with the reviews I might had been weary and perhaps not taking it seriously. The bloggers that reviewed the products, even if they where paid to do it, gave me a completely different perspective; a perspective that actually helped that company make a sale without using any of its own resources to do so! I was impressed, and still am; particularly of the effectiveness and direct nature of this media, blogging. Here are some more reasons for making money with a blog:
Building Back links
ideally, one way links pointing back to their sites. When someone posts a link with a keyword pointing back to their page, it is like a vote; a vote of confidence for that site, at least for search engines. In order for, Google, lets say to weed out all the irrelevant results from searches, they came up with an algorithm that only shows the most accepted pages for that keyword. In order to achieve this they rank pages with more links pointing back to them with particular keywords, better and higher. If you want your page to rank better for searches you should strive to get all the backlinks you can find. Other blogs are an excellent way of getting these links.
Blogs are Interactive
Readers will post comments, take part in discussions, talk about their experiences about particular products/topics, draw their conclusions and possibly write about the same topic on their blogs. Aside from the extra exposure an advertiser can get it helps build a better presence for their website with more backlinks. More backlinks means better rankings and as a result better placement on a search engine result page and more money.
It is not hard to start a blog and turn it into a money blog. You can also go to www.instant-blog-and-ping.com. All you need to do is first comprehend the potential of your blog and then start putting some work in optimizing it. Once you start getting some visitors you can start making money right away. You can make money blogging with paid reviews. Or if you are into Web 2.0, and a fan of social networking, you can still make money blogging with Undercard.
Ethical Search Engine Optimisation – Link Building
October 9, 2008 by The Big SEO
This article covers the basics of why webmasters need to build links to their websites, why google penalizes people for buying links, and the best way to build links whilst staying on the right side of Google!
The old Approach to getting listed in Google – (Still practiced by some out of date SEO companies!)
It used to be recommended that to get your website lists in Googles search engine you should submit your website to Google, and as many other search engines as possible.
Whilst this (cough) May work, it is an incredibly time consuming process. Even Google themselves admit that because of the sheer number of sites submitted it can take weeks for any kind of results… and that’s if anything happens at all!
Search Engine Submission Companies?
Well yes, there are companies that for a fee will submit your website to 100’s or 1000’s of search engines. The thing is that even this can have very little effect. Some of the search engine submission companies may even suggest you pay them a monthly fee to submit your website every month. This is also pretty useless really!
So how do I get my website listed and ranked in search engines then???
Okay, so we have told you how not to do it, and who not to throw your money at! – But what about how to get listed fast, and get good rankings?
First, forget any SEO company that guarantee’s you a number one or first page position in Google. Forget any companies that tell you it better to rank high in ‘lesser’ search engines! Forget anyone that say’s they can get you instant results!
The truth is that the inner working of the Google search algorithm is a closely guarded secret! – Google are not about to tell ANYONE how their formula works – even if they did, it is constantly being updated to bring better results, keep up with the general changes in the cyber world, and combat search engine spam and black hat SEO.
That said, we do know that a BIG part of the Google search algo covers Off Page SEO (aka backlinks!).
The basic rule is that the more backlinks you have the better. Simple eh?! (If only!)
There is more to this of course! – The best links to have are ones from relevant sites (ones that are on a similar theme or topic) and from sites that have some PageRank (PR is just one small aspect of the Google Algo… We will have an article coming up on PR soon, don’t worry!)
So… to get listed, all you need to do is buy decent, quality backlinks from websites that are on the same topic as yours and that have some PageRank yes?
Well… sort of! – BUT…
Because of the huge effect backlinks like this can have on your search positions, people obviously started to buy links to their sites…
Google didn’t like this and decided to try to penalise people that bought links for the purpose of raising their websites rankings. –But Why?
Some people really hated Google for doing this! – But if you look at it from Google’s point of view, the whole reason that getting backlinks helps your website get higher in the Google search engine is because each backlinks is seen as a ‘vote’ for your website.
Using this system enabled Google to return very relevant searches for its users, because what people were talking about online was taken into account… For example:
If someone searched Google for ‘motorbike training’ then Google would return whatever websites were most relevant to this term. Of course if lots of people were linking to a specific site from pages that talked about ‘motorbike training’ then that would be an indication that the site they are linking to is about motorbike training!
The problem for Google is that if people are allowed to merely buy links to their websites, it means that their search results are open to manipulation by the highest bidder!
Now think for a moment if you were Google… Your search engine was popular because it delivered relevant results. One of the big reasons for this is the whole backlink checking system. People are starting to buy backlinks and thus manipulate their results in your search engine and there is a danger that this will mean less relevant results being displayed for your searchers… This may eventually lead to you loosing the market majority to the likes of Yahoo… Now imagine that you are making billions of days per year and this is what is at stake! – Would you not act?
Well, like it or not Google recently did!
These days if a website gets caught buying links for the purpose of manipulating their search rankings they may be penalized by Google and loose rankings in a big way!
So, is this the end of link building and Off Page SEO?
Absolutely not! No way!
Backlinks are still a HUGE part of the Google Algorithm.
The effect of having lots of backlinks (quality ones!) can still be amazing for your search engine positions. The difference is that these days you cannot simply buy backlinks and expect to sit back and watch your site soar through the Google results pages… maybe it will at first, but if you get found out you may suffer in the long term!
So how can a webmaster build backlinks these days and in the future? That’s the million dollar question (or the $800 per month question in some cases!)
To effectively build backlinks and raise your website in Googles search results you have to go about your link building without aiming to raise your website in Googles search results… What? – That sounds crazy!
Well, what we mean is… if you want to raise your website in Google, stop trying so hard! – Google wants to fetch its searchers the most relevant websites… so firstly make sure that your website IS relevant. Next you need to let people know your website exists!
Google doesn’t seem to have a problem with link building, so long as it’s done for the right reasons. Link building should be done to raise awareness of your site, not to manipulate any algorithms. If done correctly then people will discover your website through your links, and then they will love your content so much, or find it so useful that they will start to tell others online about it. This is the whole idea that Google is based on. Relevant sites should be talked about lots by people in that niche… its natural!
Easy eh? – Hmmm… It can be, but you do have to be careful not to trigger any alarms whilst link building. The best way to link build these days??? – Hire a professional! – In the current online marketing climate it is possible to get your website penalised by Google by doing something that makes the mighty G think you are up to no good.
Examples of this are: ‘sponsored links’, some forms of link exchange of swapping, link farms, linking out to ‘bad neighbourhood’ sites, spam etc… this list is very long!
Each link you get should really be assessed for its quality and its pro’s and con’s.
If I hire someone to do this for me all is okay, I can’t be banned right? – WRONG!
There is a ridiculous amount of link building and SEO (search engine optimisation) companies out there these days, all desperate to take your money! – Some of them are good, some are excellent and some are terrible!
I have even seen a terms and conditions page that states that the SEO Company are not liable if they get your website banned from Google!!! – Crazy or what!
If you want to find a good SEO / link building company, search Google for something like ‘ethical seo expert’ and maybe check the first one to three results (make sure you are checking the natural listings, and not the ‘sponsored links’ bit that appears at the right hand side of the results page, and sometimes at the top – if an SEO company is any good, why would they have to pay to advertise – can they not get their own website to rank!?!)
When you look at the site, try to find out what sort of link building they offer (email them if needed). It would be wise to choose a company that offers quality articles, and blog posts and other online PR work (as in Public Relations, not Page Rank!)
I hope this article has cleared things up a little!

5 Ways To Create Backlinks To Your Website
October 6, 2008 by The Big SEO
Getting your website ranked high up in search engines like Yahoo and Google can be a very hard and long task. It can even cost a significant amount of money if you hire a professional to do it for you. However there are easier, and cheaper methods to do this yourself. One of those methods is getting backlinks to your website.
Building backlinks will play and important role in how well your site gets ranked in the search engines for the keywords you are targeting. Most people will not even take the time to get links back to their site, but those who do take the time and effort will see the bigger reward in the end.
Now below I have listed 5 quick and easy ways you can go about getting backlinks to your website. These are proven ways that work time after time. So use them for all your sites you own.
1. Create some kind of link bait. Link bait is something that draws people in to link to your site. This could be a free tool that you have on your site for people to use. People will then link to this page so they can share it with others, and use it themselves.
2. Make your own software program and submit it to all the free download sites. There are thousands of sites that allow you to download programs. These sites are highly trusted sites, and they will link to your page where people can download your program you created giving you high quality backlinks.
3. Email other websites and ask to do a simple link exchange. If your page is relevant to theirs they are more likely to do a link exchange. It is important though that you only seek out other sites that are related to yours as its key to link to relevant sites.
4. Write and submit articles to article directories. After each article you submit leave a small link back to your website. Doing this once after each article you write will quickly add up to a number of different backlinks going to your website. This method may not be good as the others, but it is still highly recommended.
5. Try doing a simple Google search for free link directories. You should get hundreds of results back of places you can submit your site to. Just make sure you submit your site to the category that best fits your site.
Follow the above steps and within a few days or week you will start to see your site climb the ranks of Yahoo and Google.
Search Engine Optimization Strategies ~ Building One-way Links

One-way links or links from other web sites to your own web site are valuable web promotion tools for two reasons. First, they boost your page rank because search engines usually include link popularity in their search algorithms, so the more one-way links you have and the more relevant the web sites these links are found, the higher your link popularity is. Second, links from other sites that point toward your web site increase your web traffic because the visitors of the other web sites are exposed to your links and may consequently click them to get to your site. Link building and one-way link building in particular should be done by any web master who is serious about promoting his or her web site.
— Basic one-way link building —
The best way to get other web sites to backlink to your site is by making their web masters want to link up with you. The way to do this is to maintain a professional, tasteful and highly desirable web site.
Your web site should have creative, well-written, and exceptional content so that other web masters would covet your content for their own or would want to provide their visitors with a link to worthy content that they themselves don’t have. And since these web masters want your content for their own web sites, it is reasonable to assume that their web sites are related to yours. Therefore when these web sites link back to you, you will get the most effective type of one-way links or backlinks, which are those that come from relevant web sites.
— Link building through article or content submission —
A variation of the above is actively seeking one-way links using your own web site content or other specially written content. This is done by submitting articles to article directories, forums and blogs that contain anchored text that would direct the reader to your site when clicked. Another way to do this would be to submit articles and/or RSS feeds to other web sites.
This method of backlinking is very effective in getting your web site valuable one-way links because you provide the other web sites, the article directories, the forums, and the blogs content that they need for their own visitors’ use. Web administrators welcome your content. And your links go where your content does, of course.
You have to remember, though, that you have to be very careful in choosing the websites, article directories, forums, and blogs you post your content to. First, they should be relevant to your web site so that the one-way links you obtain carry more weight; and second, they should be indexed by the search engines or your backlinks will be wasted.
— Web Directory link building —
Web directories are an important source of one-way links. You must submit your links to popular web directories like Yahoo and DMOZ because backlinks from them give your link popularity and therefore your page rank a big boost. There are web directories that are free but you may have to wait months before your links are posted.
When you submit your links to web directories, make sure to include the categories you want your link to be part of. Choose the categories carefully because search engines still consider this in link popularity and page ranking.
— Link building through web news flash —
There are sites that are specifically for web news and announcements and you can submit your own press release for free or for a minimal fee. However, you must have something newsworthy to post before you can make use of this link-building avenue.
